Lisa Hagena will discuss a recent paper in Translational Psychiatry (2023 Aug 14;13(1):280. doi: 10.1038/s41398-023-02573-5), titled “HSPA12A controls cerebral lactate homeostasis to maintain hippocampal neurogenesis and mood stabilization” (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41398-023-02573-5)

This work demonstrates that the heat shock protein A12A plays a role in regulating hippocampal neurogenesis and mood stabilization. The mechanisms for maintaining mood stabilization are not fully understood, and mood disorders can affect numerous aspects of patients’ lives, including physical health, sleep, cognition, and rational thinking. Therefore, the findings may offer new possibilities for the treatment of mood disorders.
